D/COMPT OGUNDEYI SPITS FIRE; COMBS SMUGGLING FLASHPOINTS IN KWARA WITH N204 MILLION SEIZURES & N3.8 BILLION REVENUE

The Kwara Area command under the able leadership of Deputy Comptroller NA Ogundeyi is combing the smuggling terrain and flashpoints in the zone with unprecedented seizures of prohibited goods.

He noted that in the last four weeks, the command has recorded major interceptions with Duty Paid Value ( DPV) running into more than N204.763 million.

The anti-smuggling mission expert said his operatives recorded 9 different striking seizures which include foreign parboiled rice, second hand tyres, vegetable oil, marcsaroni pasta, as well as Premium motor spirit (PMS).

Cannabis sativa are also common features, tramadol, corrosive oxidizer chemicals as well as several bales of second hand clothing.

He stressed that these achievements underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to combating illegal trade and smuggling of uncustomed goods, thereby protecting national revenue and ensuring that only legitimate trade can thrive.

Between March 2026 to date, the Command has successfully carried out series of interceptions across the key smuggling flashpoints within Kwara State and adjoining areas. These locations include: Bukuro axis, Gurumi and Sikira axis, Okuta axis, Boriya axis, Tewu and Bero axis, Sango and Okeoyi road, Alapa axis, Malete and Bani axis, Offa and Idofian road, Lagos-Ilorin Expressway and Eiyenkorin axis.

He said These areas have remained under close watch due to their strategic use by smugglers attempting illegal trade and smuggling of uncustomed goods both in and out of the country.

Permit me to highlight some of the notable interceptions recorded during this period:
• 155 Bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each) — DPV: ₦52,447,500.00
• 70 Pieces of secondhand tyres — DPV: ₦1,400,000.00
• 418 Jerry cans of vegetable oil — DPV: ₦27,170,000.00
• 3,697 Packages of Macaroni pasta — DPV: ₦110,910,000.00
• 237 Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (25 litres each, totaling 5,925 litres) — DPV: ₦2,370,000.00
• 49.5kg of Cannabis — DPV: ₦4,009,500.00
• 376kg of Tramadol — DPV: ₦564,000.00
• 19 Jerry cans of Corrosive Oxidizer Chemicals (35 litres each) — DPV: ₦792,439.00
• 18 Bales of secondhand clothing — DPV: ₦5,100,000.00

According to him, in the Area of Revenue generation, despite the fact that the National borders with the republic of Benin have been shut down by the Federal Republic of Nigeria since August 2019, the Command has been generating its revenue majorly from Excise Factories and anti-smuggling activities.

In the First Quarter of 2026, the Command was able to generate Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Five Million, Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-Two Naira, Ninety-four kobo. (₦3,895,333,182.94)

Today the Controller enthusiastically brief us on the Commands Revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities and also utilize this medium to identify and recognize my Officers and Men with different award of performance in different field of operations. This attempt is aimed at recognizing and appreciating their unwavering commitment in the areas of their responsibilities. Moreover, this will enhance their performance and encourage them to do even more of what is expected of them.

At the outset, he wishes to express his profound appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs Dr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, psc(+) for his visionary leadership and unwavering support towards the successes of our operations.

He also extend his sincere gratitude to the entire Management team of the Service, for providing the strategic direction and operational backing required to sustain the enforcement efforts. He will like to also recognize the paradigm shift in the improvement on intelligent driven operations and discipline of Kwara Command personnel since the re-deployment of the new Team Manager Customs Intelligent Unit (CIU) and the new Team Leader Customs Police Unit (CPU).

Furthermore, he commends the existing cordial relation, support and cooperation between the Command and its Sister Agencies, which have been instrumental in our successes.

He wishes to assure the public that under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the Service remains resolute in deploying proactive and intelligent-driven strategies to secure our borders and protect the nation’s economy.

They also call on members of the public, especially those in border communities, to support their efforts by providing timely and credible information. Such cooperation is vital in sustaining the successes recorded so far.
