U.S. IMPLEMENTS NEW SINGLE-ENTRY VISA POLICY FOR NIGERIAN CITIZENS

The U.S. Department of State has announced a significant update to its nonimmigrant visa policy for Nigerian citizens, effective today, July 8, 2025. Under the revised reciprocal visa framework, most nonimmigrant and non-diplomatic visas issued to Nigerians will now be single-entry with a validity period of three months.
The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria clarified that visas issued prior to this date will remain unaffected, retaining their original terms and validity.
The policy shift, detailed on the U.S. Embassy’s website, aims to strengthen vetting processes to verify applicants identities and ensure admissibility to the United States. “This update complements our commitment to safe and lawful travel while fostering people-to-people ties through business, education, and cultural exchanges,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria stated.
The change aligns with ongoing reciprocal visa policy reviews, with further details available on travel.state.gov.
The new policy has sparked discussions, particularly among Nigerian travelers. Posts on X highlight concerns that the single-entry, three-month visa may complicate travel plans for students and business professionals accustomed to multiple-entry or longer-validity visas.
