Customs Area controller of Edo /Delta command, Comptroller ( Mrs) Judith Kanu has said that collaboration between the service and the Edo state government would go a long way in achieving socio-economic development of the state and the nation at large.

In her speech during the courtesy visit to the governor of Edo state, His Excellency, Senator Okpehbolo, the Controller stated that the envisaged collaboration would also assist to curb trans- border insecurity. While reaffirming their dedication to service, discipline and professionalism, Comptroller Kanu deposed;

‘We believe that together, with the support of your administration, we can attain greater efficiency in revenue collection, enhance border security and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic of this great state and our nation at large’

“Let me begin by expressing our profound appreciation for the warm reception
accorded to me and my team. This gesture reflects the spirit of hospitality that this
great state is known for, and it affirms your commitment to collaboration for National
Growth and Development.

Your Excellency, The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs, remains committed to its core mandates: revenue generation, trade facilitation, and suppression of smuggling.

As I assume the responsibility of
overseeing Customs operations within the Edo States, I am fully aware of the unique
economic and security landscape of the region. The strategic position of this
Command – Bordering the Ports, Industrial Zones and Vast Trade Routes – Demands
Vigilance, Innovation and Energy with all Stakeholders.

We recognize the critical role that the State Government plays in creating an enabling
environment for our operations. Our visit today is not just on formality- it is an
invitation to deepen the working relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service
and the Government of Edo State. We seek your continued support in the areas of
logistics, information sharing, security collaboration, and public enlightenment.

I also wish to assure your Excellency of our readiness to work with other security and
regulatory agencies to combat smuggling and other cross-border crimes. We are
committed to ensuring that legitimate trade thrives while those who seek to
circumvent the law are brought to justice”.

Welcoming the Area Controller and her team at the government house in Benin city, the Edo state governor, His Excellency, Senator Okpehbolo congratulated her on her well deserved appointment as Area controller of Edo/Delta customs command.

The governor charged Compt Kanu and her team to be professional in discharging their duties . He offered prayers on their behalf so they can be able to generate needed revenue for national development.

‘The Almighty God will give you all the strength to be able to generate revenue and achieve your other mandates’ he noted.
