

PRESIDENT TINUBU ARRIVES IPERU REMO WITH OBASANJO; COMMISSIONS N73 BILLION CUSTOMS VILLAGE

The N73 billion customs village located in Iperu Remo in Ogun state was commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today. Tinubu, accompanied by former president Olusegun Obasanjo with his daughter Iyabo and the state governor arrived the customs village after a long wait.
The customs village will be housing the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) zone A, jumbo warehouse as well as barracks.
Tinubu also commissioned the Ogun state cargo International airport. Briefing newsmen later, Customs Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, expressed happiness with the honour done the service by the presence of the Commmander-in-Chief.


He stated that the customs village will provide enough space for the operations of the Federal Operations Unit.
He commended his predecessor who initiated the project, promising that in few months time, the facility will be in use by the FOU.
Adeniyi pointed out that office furniture has been provided for the various offices, noting that as a cutting edge enforcement unit, the FOU is now better positioned to effectively discharge its responsibilities more than ever before. With the vagaries in the naira value, he opined that there may be variations in future, but added that it will be consequent on the approval of the government.


With the commissioning of the Ogun state airport, the customs boss said officers are already in sync with their roles in export processing of products. ‘We are already working in concert with the state Governor to ensure that the essence of the airport is achieved’
Guests at the function were surprised to sight the presence of former president Obasanjo who has been a sharp critic of the Tinubu administration. Senator Solomon Yayi and great sons and daughters of Ogun state arrived the customs village commissioning with the president.


It was estatic joy amongst customs personnel who congratulated their Comptroller General for the feat and for attracting President Tinubu to inaugurate the new customs village.
