

COMPT ONYEKA STEPS UP WAR ON NARCOTICS; INTERCEPTS N4.7 BILLION CANNABIS INDICA & ARMS

Fifty five jumbo bags of cannabis Indica containing 2,366 packages with estimated street value of more than N4.7 billion have been intercepted by the operatives of the Tin Can Island Customs command. Area Controller of the command, Compt Frank Onyeka disclosed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
‘Precisely on Wednesday, January 28,2026, after an extensive physical examination conducted by our officers, alongside other relevant agencies, which included the operatives of the NDLEA and the Department of State Services (DSS), with the declarant, a 40ft container was found to contain 55 jumbo bags of cannabis Indica and one colt’s MK IV series 70.45 Automatic Caliber Pistol (S419) with one empty magazine’

Compt Onyeka stated that the examination revealed that the following were used as means of concealment of the prohibited and undeclared items: 3 used vehicles, namely, 1 used Hyundai Santa Fe, 1 used Toyota Sienna 1 used Toyota Matrix.
Consequently, the customs boss said the seized narcotics will be formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution in line with the existing laws. According to him, the firearm will also be handed over to the relevant agency in the soonest possible time.
He warned that the service will not tolerate drug smuggling or any form of transnational crime and remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding national security and public health.

The Command appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR for his unwavering support, leadership and strategic guidance, which he noted has continued to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and operational effectiveness.
Compt Onyeka assured the public of the command’s sustained vigilance and determination to combat smuggling and other illegal activities at all the ports entry.
