FORGIVE MY TRANSGRESSIONS; RETIRING ACG BABANDEDE PLEADS WITH OFFICERS

Retiring Zonal Co-ordinator for zone A, Assistant Comptroller General Mohammed Babandede has pleaded with officers and men of the customs to forgive any of his transgressions committed while in office.
In a valedictory meeting today with Area controllers and very senior officers of the zone A, the zonal Co-ordinator alluded to the fact that no matter what, in the exercise of his duties, he must have knowingly or unknowingly, trampled on someone’s rights; noting that it may not have been done intentionally.
He begged the serving officers not to reject his calls whenever he phones them, noting that it was becoming ridiculous that serving officers do not often pick calls from retired men and women, even when no requests are attached.

According to him, whether in or out of office, they are still one family, drawing instance with an agency where some of them have put in 35 years, having not worked in any other organization soon after passing out from the university.
‘At 59 , I have put in 35 years in the customs, soon after my university days; This means I have not known any other work or personnel than in customs’
The retiring ACG stated that there must be entry and exit in any organization, and that the time has come for some of them to confront another phase of their lives.

He flaunted his zone as the highest revenue generating wing of the customs service, eulogizing the various Area controllers for keeping the flag flying.
Babandede charged the serving officers to protect the service jealously so that the service can as well protect them.
A lot of feats he assigned to the zone , pointing out the just concluded sporting competition in the zone, which he noted was reactivated after 15 years in limbo.

He thumbed up the service’s corporate social Responsibility (CSR) which prioritizes education and health.
‘I don’t have any other job than the customs, am not going away from my family’, he stressed.
He wished the serving officers that they will hit the prestigious rank of ACG before they retire.
Some of the Area controllers (serving and retiring) took their turns to eulogize the retiring officers.
Comptrollers Anani, Kaila, Otunla, Nwokorie and Hauwa Abubakar spoke glowingly about the ACG, and how his stewardship led to the huge success in the zone.
They all stated that officials should as soon as they documented during their first entry, should start immediately to plan for their retirement.
They said no matter how long, a day will come when they will roll out. They spoke of fear of the unknown as the greatest drawback for retiring officers, ‘but until you face it, you will not conquer it’
Nwokorie advised that officers must treat their juniors well, and respect everyone.
‘You sleep as officers but you wake up as civilians’

The Area controller of Tin can Island command, Compt Joe Anani, said he has some mixed feelings on the retirements, he maintained that Babandede came, he saw and he conquered.
The officers wished the quartet of ACG Babandede, Comptrollers Oshoba, Aliyu, Nwokorie and Hauwa Abubakar great future.
Comptrollers EO Oshoba and Gambo Aliyu were conspicuously absent at the valedictory meeting.
