LEAGUE OF MARITIME EDITORS TO HOLD AGM/SEMINAR ON REVERSING INBALANCE IN CARGO VESSEL CALLS BETWEEN LAGOS & EASTERN PORTS

The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) has concluded plans to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and seminar on August 20, In Lagos.

The programme which will be held at BWC Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos will have the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy as the Special Guest of Honour.

In a press statement issued by the President of the Association, Mrs Remi Itie, the theme of the seminar is “Lagos/Eastern Ports: How to Reverse Existing Imbalance in Disproportionate Cargo Vessel Calls”.

To be chaired by the former General Manager, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Captain Iheanacho Ebubeogu (Master Mariner FG), the Chief Executives of the agencies in the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry are expected to deliver lectures on their areas of corporate obligations.

Among the papers to be delivered during the occasion include ‘Port Modernisation: Its Impact in the Maritime Industry – Managing Director of NPA – Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and ‘The Essentials of Port Security and Challenges – Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola.

Other papers are ‘The Imperative of Paperless Documentation Under NSW Regime’, ‘ The Role of Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in Ensuring Cargo Distribution Across Nigeria Ports’ to be delivered by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi and Dr. Pius Akutah respectively.

President of League, Itie, said the planned seminar is part of the efforts of the Association to contribute its own quota in maritime development.

She said that during the seminar, a communique that will be useful in national economic development shall be issued and made available to government.

According to her, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association shall follow after the seminar.
