CGC ADENIYI: A REFORMER, A CONSENSUS BUILDER, AND A LEADER FOR THE TIMES—D/COMPT MIKO
The decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, is not only well deserved but also reassuring for all stakeholders who have witnessed the remarkable transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service under his watch.
CGC Adeniyi has distinguished himself as a leader of vision, integrity, and courage. Since assuming office, he has demonstrated an uncommon ability to inspire confidence within the Service, build productive partnerships with stakeholders, and drive reforms that have strengthened revenue generation, trade facilitation, and national economic development.
His leadership has brought renewed purpose to the Nigeria Customs Service. Through innovation, strategic engagement, and a deep understanding of the Customs mandate, he has repositioned the Service as a more responsive and efficient institution. The ongoing implementation of key initiatives, including the National Single Window project and home-grown digital solutions, reflects his commitment to modernizing Customs administration in line with global best practices.
Beyond the impressive achievements and milestones, what stands out most is his ability to carry people along. He has remained accessible, focused, and steadfast in pursuing reforms while maintaining the confidence of officers, stakeholders, and government alike.
The extension of his tenure provides an opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms and further strengthen the foundations already laid for a more efficient and technology-driven Customs Service. It is a recognition of performance, dedication, and the trust he has earned through service.
