The House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise has approved a total of ₦1.132 trillion as the 2025 budget for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), signalling legislative support for the agency’s revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation efforts.

The budget was presented to the committee on Monday, June 23, 2025, by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who was represented by Deputy Comptroller-General Mohammed Jibo, in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, according to Emporium Reporters.

Adeniyi disclosed that the NCS has set an ambitious ₦6.584 trillion revenue target for the 2025 fiscal year. This comprises ₦3.853 trillion for the Federation Account, ₦1.081 trillion for the Non-Federation Account, and ₦1.650 trillion projected from Import Value Added Tax (VAT).

According to him, the anticipated revenue will be sourced from legitimate streams, including 4% of Free-On-Board (FOB) value totalling ₦1.070 trillion, a 2% VAT share of ₦33.01 billion, and ₦29.05 billion set aside for ongoing capital projects.

The proposed expenditure framework earmarked ₦247.16 billion for personnel costs, ₦239.97 billion for overheads, and ₦645.42 billion for capital projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure and operational capabilities across commands.

The NCS further expressed its commitment to fiscal transparency, compliance with legislative oversight, and sustained collaboration with relevant authorities to implement key reforms and modernisation initiatives.
