The brand new Area Controller of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT), Compt Joy Edelduok has vowed to revive moribund terminals under her jurisdiction in order to shore up the command’s revenue generation.

While taking over from the immediate past area controller, she noted that revenue generation remains a major plank of the service’s mandate without compromising on its other mandate of trade facilitation.

According to the new command’s Customs boss, in view of the agency’s mandate to facilitate trade, it will strategically pursue a 48-hour cargo clearance time so that importers and agents do not unnecessarily waste time and money through demurrage and long stay at the terminals.

She noted that 48-hours clearance time is realistic, noting that with the determination of officers and stakeholders alike, it will be a done deal. Emphasizing on the need for revenue generation, she insisted that it remains the key performance index (KPI) henceforth.

Edekdouk deposed that the command under her leadership would make consolidation, collaboration and motivation their cornerstone, noting that she would consolidate on the already secured gains with stakeholders to improve the fortunes of the command .

The new Area Controller who was in charge of License and Permit at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja pledged that she would run an open administration just like her predecessor. She called for suggestions on how to improve the activities of the command as well as taking it to the next level.

‘I implore you to join hands with me to take the command to the next level because it is not what I can do alone. I want you to come forward with your suggestions on how to move to greater heights.
For terminals that are moribund, we are going to work together to bring them back to life. We need to go all out and negotiate and make this place friendly.

She harped on service delivery; let us give them 48-hour service delivery. It is possible, we have to be friendly and accessible to achieve our mandate ‘

Earlier in her valedictory speech, former Controller, M.M Tilley Gyado appreciated the officers as well as stakeholders for their support. She said the command relied on the stemming of cargoes to its terminals even though the cargo throughput was low.

Notwithstanding, the command generated N36.6 billion between January and May this year. This , according to her represents 75 percent of increase when juxtaposed with earnings of same period last year.

She pointed out that the KLT established and extended terminal availability adding that it also transformed from simple export processing terminal exporting 869 containers since it became Export processing Terminal (EPT). Tilly Gyado said the achievements were due to the resilience of the officers.
