Journalists, Stakeholders Welcome Shuaib en masse @ Idiroko Border As He Reads the Riot Act

New Customs Controller of Idiroko Border, Ahmadu Has declared his jurisdiction as a no- go area for smugglers and their accomplices. ‘Their nefarious activities will not be condoned and anyone caught in the act shall be brought to book’

While taking over mantle of leadership today in a well attended ceremony by scores of journalists and officers who described him as humane, he said he is a team player and believes so much in a team work.

He charged officers to adhere strictly to the rules of Engagement while discharging their duty in conformity with the 2023 customs Act.

According to the customs helmsman, the compliant business community and critical stakeholders would have nothing to fear as the new administration would operate an open door policy to strengthen the existing relationship with the command.

Shuaib said his posting to the command by the Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR is seen as a call to higher responsibility and thanked the CGC for finding him worthy for the deployment.
‘I shall discharge my duties diligently and uphold the policy thrust of the Comptroller General’ He deposed.

As said in the book of life, when righteous men are in position of authority, the people rejoice.

So it was the atmosphere at the conference hall of the command as major stakeholders especially journalists said of Shuaib as no- nonsense officer who has paid his dues as the Co-ordinator of the Comptroller General’s Strike force.
They also alluded of him having a good heart.

In his speech, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde said in line with the Command’s mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation, it has excelled.

According to him, from his inception on February 9th 2022 to date, the command generated N225,009,835.50as revenue.
He said out of the revenue target of N136,532,168.22 set for the command for the year 2023, at least N127,122,058.00, about 91 per cent of the target has been generated so far.

‘Within my 17 months in office, the command recorded about 1,479 seizure comprising 1,245 rounds of live Ammunition, 72989 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each (which is an equivalent of 122 trucks load), 907 bales & 236 sacks of secondhand clothing, 394 sacks & 2,678 wraps of cannabis sativa and 655,400 liters of premium motor spirit (an equivalent of 20 Tankers load) among others, with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of 6,604,107,655.92.

Makinde said his tour of duty witnessed a significant increase in revenue generation and an improved anti-smuggling performance. The successes recorded would have been haphazard, if not for the support of NCS Headquarters, concerted efforts of our gallants officers and Men, and robust synergy with our critical stakeholders. May I call on officers to redouble their efforts and give the incoming administration maximum support and Cooperation to sustain the performance tempo of the Command. In a similar vein, I wish to solicit the unflinching support of our critical stakeholders for the new Area Controller. Let me express my sincere gratitude to the Lord Almighty and to you all, for your maximum cooperation and tolerance throughout my stay in the office’
