Compt Umar assumes duty in Katsina, promises hard times for Smugglers

One of the enforcement and revenue officers recently appointed is Comptroller Umar Abubakar. He remains well grounded in Customs operatives under the former Comptroller General Dikko Inde.

Having superintended over the kano command few months ago and came out in flying colours in revenue generation and anti smuggling feats, it didn’t take the current Comptroller General any second thought than to send him to a major command in katsina to implement government’s new regulations on trade goods especially since the coup in Niger Republic.

Comptroller Umar Abubakar assumed duties today, immediately after which he paid courtesy visit to some first class Royal fathers.

This follows the recent appointments and redeployments of some management members and Comptrollers by the  Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for optimal operational efficiency of the Service.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tahir Balarabe on Friday,  Compt. Abubakar took over from his predecessor, Compt. MN Musa on September 13, 2023.

Comptroller Umar is a native of Bauchi State, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira.

He was enlisted into the Service as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs in 1989. He attended several courses both within and outside the country. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria.

Umar also paid a visit to the military brass in the state

The Controller is a seasoned officer with vast experience in various Customs formations, units, and departments, his posting has re-candled the light of hope that the Command will improve on its core mandate of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and smuggling suppression.

Before his promotion to the rank of Comptroller, he was once an Acting Comptroller Special Duties at the Headquarters Abuja.

He also served as substantive controller of Plateau/Nassarawa/Benue, Kano/Jigawa. Until his present posting, he was Comptroller Admin at the Zonal Headquarters, Zone B Kaduna.

The CAC thanked the CGC and his management team for the privilege to serve the nation as controller of Katsina Area Command, and promised to uphold the highest standard of professionalism and work ethics.

He further charged officers and men of the Command to be disciplined and professional while discharging their duties.
