

CUSTOMS DECLARES N7.28 TRILLION REVENUE; MAKES N59 BILLION SEIZURES IN 2025

No less than N7.28 trillion was generated by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the whole of last year.
The Comptroller General of the Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, disclosed today while celebrating the World Customs Day in Abuja.
According to him, with this figure, the Service surpassed its last year’s target of N6.5 trillion by 10 percent.
On anti-smuggling, the CGC disclosed that the Service during the year also recorded over 2500 seizures with aggregate value of more than ₦59 billionn in prohibited and harmful goods.
He said that the Service seized 16 containers of prohibited goods worth over ₦10 billion in a single operation at Apapa, Lagos. The items included expired pharmaceuticals and concealment of firearms, a statement issued by the Customs said.
According to the statement , “At the airports, officers intercepted over 1,600 exotic birds being trafficked without CITES permits, stopping a wildlife crime operation that would have harmed both biodiversity and Nigeria’s international obligations”.
