

STAKEHOLDERS COMMEND CUSTOMS B’ODOGWU MODERNIZATION; AS CG ADENIYI AGREES IT IS A GAME CHANGER

Industry operators today gathered in Lagos to review the performance of the B’Odogwu portal in the clearance of cargoes from the seaports. and they were unanimous that the system has upscaled the required speed in the clearing of goods.
The Comptroller General of the Customs service, Adewale Adeniyi, MFR was also in agreement that the system was a game changer. He said though, there were few negatives yet, the positives outweighed. He pledged that the posit aspect would ginger the workforce to improve the system better that it is presently.
As the Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) council, it behoves on Nigeria to lead the way in technology applications to enable maximum trade facilitation.
In her welcome address, the Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) in charge of ICT-Modernization, DCG KI Adeola appreciated the Comptroller General, saying his presence underscored the Service’s unwavering commitment to transparency, innovation and inclusive engagement in the agency’s modernization journey, especially as it consolidates the deployment of the Unified Customs Management system (B’Odogwu).
According to her, the essence of our gathering today is captured in the theme: Enhancing Trade Compliance and System Optimization Through Stakeholder Engagement.. This Town Hall is not just another event; it is a strategic platform to engage our valued partners in trade on the B’Odogwu Clearance System.
“Since its phased deployment, B’Odogwu has demonstrated tremendous potential in enhancing clearance efficiency, improving cargo visibility, and boosting revenue generation. Yet, like every major reform, its success depends on how well we carry along the people it was built for, that is you.”
“However, our continuous monitoring and feedback reveal that many importers still face challenges navigating the system. These are not insurmountable obstacles; they are gaps we must bridge through education, direct engagement, and mutual accountability. That is why we are here today.”
“This engagement will: Clarify the end-to-end roles of importers and other stakeholders in the B’Odogwu ecosystem; Showcase the platforms capabilities through live demonstrations; Provide space for honest dialogue through panel sessions and Questions & Answers; Receive feedback from Air Freighters, Terminal Operators, Shipping lines, importers across various modes (the seaport, airport, and land borders)
regulators, financial institutions, and the technical team behind the `platform And most importantly, co-create the path forward with all stakeholders.”
“Let me also share that this is not a one-off. NCS plan to launch a series of post-Town Hall virtual workshops to offer hands-on support to importers, brokers, and agents.”
