Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) for the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has outlined his strategy to meet and surpass the revenue target set for the command.

He emphasized that this goal will be achieved through facilitating legitimate trade and businesses, ensuring strict adherence to regulations.

While hosting the executive leadership of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) during a courtesy visit, Comptroller Onyeka expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the trust placed in him. He vowed to repay that trust with his performance.

“I am committed to facilitating trade, but it must be legitimate,” he explained. “My focus is on ensuring that everything operates smoothly, and I am hopeful that we will not only meet but exceed our revenue target.”

He outlined his plan to streamline operations, particularly the examination process of containers, with the aim of reducing bottlenecks. He has already sought the cooperation of his officers, the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), the Valuation Unit, and other relevant departments to ensure seamless operations.

“My priority is to work cohesively with all units, especially to support the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Comptroller Onyeka stated.

In his address, he also expressed deep gratitude to the CGC, stating that he was determined to make him proud. “I am grateful to the CGC for this opportunity. I will prove that he made the right decision in appointing me here,” he said.

Comptroller Onyeka further committed to building on the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller General Dera Nnadi, who had made significant strides in anti-smuggling, revenue generation, and infrastructure development. He also praised Nnadi’s exemplary relationship with the media, which he intends to strengthen and build upon.

Earlier, the President of MARAN, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, assured the new CAC of the association’s full support, reaffirming the same cooperation extended to his predecessor.
