Seme/Badagry Joins Multi-Billionaires’ Commands’ Revenue Club, Makes Huge Drug Seizures
The Seme/Badagry Customs command is celebrating a major feat in its revenue profile as the Area Controller, Timi Bomodi told newsmen today that things are indeed looking up for the command in all ramifications
Against a yearly revenue target of N1.9 billion given to it, the Area has almost doubled it with more than N3.1 billion as at October this year.
‘The revenue figure collected exceeded the allotted target by N1,084,100, 912.28 only, representing a 55 per cent increase ‘ excited Bomodi stressed.
Briefing newsmen on the activities of the command since he assumed office on September 18 up until now, he stated that the successes recorded could be attributed to strategies adopted by the leadership of the command to check mate revenue leakages, in partnership with the stakeholders to ensure compliance.
Gentlemen of the Press, upon my assumption of duty on the 18 of September, 2023, I pledged to adopt sustainable ways and means of dealing with smuggling, while the focus will be on using administrative and strategic levels to block revenue leakages.
I also promised to encourage compliant traders and our host Communities along the corridor bearing in mind the challenges of the JBP as one that is still adjusting to the reality of the border closure. We have keep faith within government as talk are ongoing at the highest level to regularize the situation.
Gentlemen of the Press, the Command under my watch has made notable impacts in our key performance indicators which are revenue collection, anti-smuggling operations, and facilitation of legitimate trade.
The Command continues to sustain tempo in harnessing all revenue components to achieve desired goals. The target for the Command for the year 2023 is One Billion Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Million Naira (N1,966,000,000.00) Only. As of the end of October 2023, the Command has collected three Billion, Fifty Million, One Hundred Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twelve Naira, Twenty-eight Kobo (N3,050, 100, 912.28) only. The revenue figure collected exceeded the allotted target of N1,966,000,000 by One Billion, Eighty- Four Million, One Hundred Thousand, Nine hundred and Twelve Naira, Twenty- Eight Kobo (N1,084,100,912.28) Only, which represents a 55.1% increase.
Under Export, the Command facilitated a total of 41,867.88 Metric Tons involving One Thousand, Forty-Eight Trucks of export products, with Free On Board (FOB) of Eight Billion, Two Hundred Ninety-Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty- Seven Thousand, three Hundred and Forty Naira, Fifty- Seven Kobo ( N8,299,767,340.57) only. The Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) paid was Forty- One Million, Five Hundred and Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Eight Naira, Forty-Five Kobo. ( N41,504, 608.45) only. The surcharge paid for the period under review was Forty Million, Five Hundred and Thirty- one thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty Naira (N40,531,580.00) only.
In the area of anti-smuggling operations, you are already conversant with our past headline seizures of one hundred and Sixty-Eight (168) live Parrot birds and a Hawk which are prohibited under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) which Nigeria is a signatory. This is in addition to other notable seizures recorded between September and October 2023 are listed below:
Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Five (3,805) 50kg bags of rice about Seven (7) trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice.
One Thousand, seven Hundred and Fifty- Six (1,756) Jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit equivalent to 52, 680 liters about 2 petroleum tankers.
1,379 of General Merchandise Goods. Hard Drugs and Narcotics (40 parcels of Cannabis Sativa).. 2 used vehicles. 3 live porcupines. Six suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures. The seized Cannabis sativa and suspects will be handed over to NDLEA for further investigation.
The duty paid value for items seized is Three hundred and Twenty-Six Million, Two Hundred and Seventy- Two Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety- four Naira (326, 272, 794. 00) only.
