NSC BOSS, AKUTAH LAUDS TRIBUNE JOURNALIST, TOLA ADENUBI OVER MIMA AWARD
CALLS FOR MORE PROFESSIONALISM IN MARITIME REPORTAGE
The Executive Secretary/Ceo of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah on Tuesday lauded the Maritime Editor of the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers, Mr. Tola Adenubi for excelling at the recently concluded 2025 Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA).
The NSC Boss who played host to the Nigerian Tribune Assistant Business Editor in his office in Apapa, called for more professionalism in maritime reportage.
According to the Port Economic regulator CEO, “This award is one of the little ways of saying thank you to people who have done well; who have excelled in their field of journalism.
“You know, today, everyone is becoming a journalist because of social media platforms that have given them opportunities to write and critique.
“But the professional journalists who follow up stories and make sure that they dig into the truthfulness of what they are writing will always be there to excel.
“Irrespective of the prevalence of social media writers today, some people will always want to go with the traditional media rather than the social media practitioners because of the professionalism that comes with traditional media.”
On his advise to journalists, Dr. Akutah stated that, “My advice to journalists is that whatever story you want to come up with, also remember that the story can damage someone and can also make someone.
“So always try to balance your story so that at the end of the day, the people will always see the truth in what you are reporting. Journalism should not just be about writing anything just for the purpose of writing.
“Professional journalists have to be concerned about what comes out as news to the public because it is also about the writers dentity.”
